Christina was inspired to read often by her mother, who herself was an avid reader. The world of literature was opened to Christina at a very young age through nightly storybook reading with her mother and looking in the Buyer's Guide with her father. Though these steps seem rather small, they shaped Christina into the reader she is today. She, like many other enthusiasts of the arts, has several reasons for taking up a hobby of reading. The most important of these reasons is the use of literature as an escape from everyday life. What better solace than one that will teach you vast amounts of knowledge while allowing you to relax after the hectic day one endures? Christina attributes much of what she has learned throughout the years to her enjoyment of reading both fiction and nonfiction, especially of the historical genre. In order to be a good reader requires a generous amount of imagination and an ability to put yourself in the shoes of another. All kinds of literary pieces need a certain mindset to be able to comprehend and fully enjoy its message. Christina is able to read with ease because of the way it utilizes the imagination. Being someone who is often daydreaming, she loves the way that books can put her into the kind of trance that envelops you in a story. However, she must have a good environment to absorb the material. A loud and distracting atmosphere makes reading very difficult, especially if it isn't a very capturing plot. Christina finds it very important to choose the right kind of book for your tastes. A book with a writing style that places you into the story can make for a wonderful reading experience no matter what kind of environment you have to read in. Christina has to work around these kinds of problems when reading at home, when she has the added responsibilities of homework and chores which can become too overwhelming. She has trouble finding enough time to read, but enjoys even just a few minutes peace to finish a chapter. No matter the issues that arise, reading is a home and a haven for Christina.
Christina writes whenever she has the chance. Having written several short stories and hoping to be published someday, writing is a very important creative output for her. She learned to write in tandem with her reading, desiring to make the stories that reading inspired. Many of the great authors of the world have taken the same approach of taking what they read and being encouraged by it to make stories that will make future generations feel as they did. Writing opens the flood gates of creativity and allows for one to drain intense emotions into words. Even essays and academic writing can give one a sense of accomplishment and it can be a stress reliever to write one's opinions for the world to see and consider and debate on. In order to write well, one only needs to think. Any person can learn to write effectively and concisely, but it takes imagination to write something to capture the reader into the story you are illustrating or the issue you are arguing. Imagination cannot be taught, but it can always be developed within oneself. Christina enjoys writing creatively and academically, her favorite being fictional short stories and novellas. She has yet to complete a full novel, but hopes one day to become a published author alongside her career in biology. Her ideas often come from the most unexpected of places. The news, the rising sun, the feeling of a sundress swishing in the wind, a shop window downtown, a history textbook. All of these things have struck a cord in her mind and inspired a story. Due to ideas coming at such unexpected times, she writes fairly often at home. Christina has made writing into a sort of filing cabinet for her ideas. It clears her mind of the out pour of creative energy that can strike at any moment.
